Global Anti-racism Movement, Mars Raises Awareness of Racism/Prejudice in The Workplace
Mars (Incorporated) responded to the global “Black lives Matters” anti-racism movement to raise awareness of racism and prejudice in the workplace. Like other organizations, Mars and its subsidiaries are also made up of multicultural, diverse and inclusive migrant workers. The issue of Black Life’s Matters is related to the global movement and the spark of George Floyd’s death when he was arrested by the police in Minneapolis in May. This incident has cause several anti-racism protest round the globe.
Therefore, Mars Incorporated in partnership with Get it Well will be holding a campaign to raise awareness and train human resources organizations to understand how to deal with issues related to racism/prejudice in the work environment. The event will be held on November 27, 2020 (Friday) from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and Saturday from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at the MacClare Community Hall, Riverside Avenue, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Mars employees will be able to understand the importance of a diverse workplace. In a statement issued by CEO, Mars Incorporated, Grant F. Reid, “Everyone has the right to live, and fair hearing and shouldn’t be victimize because of the colour of their skin, or language spoken” Mars acknowledges that racism/prejudice does not stop unless we all work together to end the unfair treatment of people we think are different from us.
There’s much work to do on a personal level but for a business to succeed, there should not be any form of discrimination in creating a healthy society because amidst our difference lies the upliftment. Mars is using this opportunity to fight against racism, hate and discrimination. In order to do this successfully, we expect all Mars partners and stakeholders to do the same to create a favorable workplace for everyone. - The auditing of transparency and reporting on the effectiveness of HR bodies and employees.
- Provide a safer experience for all employees by monitoring the knowledge of hate speech in the workplace.
